Treatments

Manipulation

This is where small high velocity movements are used to help release stiff joints. Excessive force is never used in our treatments and a treatment should never be too painful.

Mobilisations

These are gentle techniques used to help loosen stiff joints, ease painful joints and help to restore normal movement patterns so that the body can heal itself.

Soft Tissue Techniques

These are massage and manual techniques used on local structures like ligaments, muscles, tendons and fascia which can help to improve circulation, reduce scarring, ease muscle spasms and help to promote the healing process.

Sports Massage

This is a deep tissue massage performed by our sports massage therapists whereby the aim is to improve the blood flow to the muscles, relax areas of tension within the muscles and improve flexibility. This is very beneficial pre and post sporting events but is also helpful in the day-to-day stresses we experience in our working day.

Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese acupuncture and Western Trigger Point acupuncture treatments are used to help alleviate pain and muscle spasms. Acupuncture can be very useful in both the acute or chronic stages of injury and we see particular effect in acute back pain, acute neck pain, tennis elbow, Achilles tendon disorders and arthritic conditions.

Electrotherapy

This is the use of electrical machines such as ultrasound and Tens to help aid tissue healing and pain relief.

Stretching Programmes

These can be given to help lengthen short and tight muscles which may be causing an imbalance or misalignment resulting in injury.

Strengthening programmes

This will help to stabilise and strengthen the limb which is vital for total rehabilitation and to help prevent future injury. We can offer advice on general maintenance exercises as well.

Core Stability Exercises

This is an approach to exercise where we will be using your deeper postural muscles to work as your stabilisers, and this is the key to helping chronic neck and back pain along with shoulder and hip impingements.

Pilates Exercises

An exercise based approach, building on the body’s core strength and posture though a series of small, non impact, repetitive exercises. We offer this as part of an exercise programme based on our initial assessment findings.

Postural Correction Advice

Analysis of your posture and working positions through your daily activities and highlighting the bad habits and suggesting corrective exercises and positional changes to help alleviate your pain and help prevent future episodes.

Taping and Strapping

The use of rigid or flexible Kinesiology tape to support the injured part either as a supportive, protective, restrictive or stimulatory technique.

Our Physiotherapists are able to help with pregnancy related back pain and pelvic dysfunctions.
